I Scored Big Time at Tuesday Morning!

They had so much amazing merchandise, I had to pinch myself

I think it’s safe to say that we all have our favorite discount retailers. Certainly, I have mine. A long time ago, I learned that the trick to shopping effectively at discount stores is to shop frequently, and if you see something that you want, you should buy it that day. If you delay, it probably will not be there when you come back.

Honestly, Tuesday Morning is a discount retailer that isn’t usually on my radar. We have two locations near me, but the locations aren’t very conspicuous, and I forget that they are there. One day recently, though, I was waiting at the stop light near one of the Tuesday Morning stores, and on a whim I pulled into the parking lot. I am so glad that I followed my instinct that day!

Oh yeah, the other tip for shopping well at discount retailers: You must shop with an open mind. Have a general idea of what you are looking for, but don’t lock in too tightly to an idea because you don’t know what they will have.

That day, I wasn’t looking for anything in particular. Mostly, I was in the mood to browse. Much to my surprise, I found some inspiring and unique pieces to add to my collection of home staging furnishings. The best thing about the impromptu shopping trip? The trip was budget-friendly!

As I strolled the aisles of Tuesday Morning, I was (as always) seeking items that fit several criteria. The items had to be: 1) In perfect condition; 2) Versatile enough to look good in any type of home; 3) Photogenic; and 4) Unique. Every item that I purchase does not need to fit all of these criteria, but everything that I purchase meets most of them. I was pleased to see that Tuesday Morning offered an impressive range of items at mostly excellent price points. Many of the furniture items, though, were either distressed or overpriced for the quality of the items, in my opinion.

When buying for staging, versatility is key

For my home staging business, I prefer to purchase items that will look appropriate in almost any home, since these items are simply the accessories to dress up a home. For example, the charcuterie tray referenced earlier could be staged with fruit and cheese to highlight a kitchen island, or displayed as a piece of wall art for a wine room. The rustic tray could be dressed up with a vase of flowers, staged with a book and coffee cup on a side table, or used as a base for smaller staging items.

The reasonable price point of most of the items was also a key factor in my purchases. As a small business owner, I try to stretch each dollar, and Tuesday Morning’s goods met my budgetary needs. They had a wide selection of rugs as well, including many larger rugs under $200.

Adding Tuesday Morning to my rotation

I will be adding Tuesday Morning to my list of favorite discount retailers for home decor and staging items. When I have shopped there in the past, I have usually had excellent luck finding items I could use. After this latest trip, in which I bought all of these outstanding items for just over $200, I am sufficiently impressed with their offerings.
