Quick Clean-Up Hacks When You’re Selling Your Home

Don’t you just love when you’re selling your home and you receive the alert that there’s a showing in thirty minutes?!

Holy cow, we need to do a quick clean-up!

I’ve been there too, and it’s no fun. When you’re selling your home, you feel like you’re on high alert all of the time. I don’t know about you, but it made me super edgy. The stress of a quick clean-up before a showing forced me to develop a cleaning plan. I have sold homes when I worked night shift, had a dog, had a young toddler, and when I was no longer living in the home. All of those situations can be tricky when you have a last-minute showing and a busy life.

I will share with you a few quick clean-up hacks that will simplify your llife when you’re selling your home.

1. Decorative storage units

Best Choice Products organizer with lid, $69.99-73.99, target.com
Brown abaca storage trunk, $39.99, athome.com

These don’t look like storage units, do they? That’s the point. By selecting a few decorative furnishings for the rooms that you use the most, you have a quick clean-up solution. Your teen has clothes on the floor? No problem! Toddler’s toys are everywhere? Got you covered. Need to hide the dog toys? Done.

2. Handheld vacuum

A powerful, rechargeable handheld vacuum is indispensable in a quick clean-up situation. Since I have a pet who sheds, I need a way to get rid of hair tumbleweeds quickly. Keep it charged & stowed away for when you need to spot-clean.

3. All types of wipes for really quick clean-up

For my last listing, I found that wipes were an efficient way to do spot-cleaning in bathrooms, high-traffic rooms prone to dust, and kitchen surfaces. Keep containers of wipes in a pail under the kitchen sink for a quick clean-up hack that looks organized.

4. Floor cleaning mop with disposable wet cloths

Keeping hard floor surfaces presentable is difficult but necessary for showings. Focus on the entry, main living space, kitchen, and main bathroom instead of a whole-house floor clean.

5. Storage container for the getaway car

Any container will do!

For items like dog food and water bowls, jewelry boxes, and other items you may not want to leave out during a showing. Place your items in a storage container or basket in the car and take them with you. It is best to remove all signs of your pet for showings, so take Lulu’s things with her when you pack her up to leave. The same goes for valuables–why take chances.

These tips should save you time and stress before showings. Remember that showings are a temporary inconvenience, but if you do it right, it will pay off in spades!
