Unbelievable! Queen Box Spring Arrived in a Puny Package!
“Does the box spring set come assembled?”
–the question I never would have presumed to ask Wayfair.
Oh, the joys of ordering furnishings online! I am in the middle of redesigning a teen bedroom. I ordered all of the furnishings, including a mattress and box spring set, through online companies. It’s just more convenient than having to haul furnishings from stores.
Or so I thought.
To my amazement, despite the supply chain disruptions we hear so much about, everything arrived within a couple days of ordering. In fact, I received notice that the mattress and box spring were arriving a day ahead of schedule!
Normally that’s a great thing, but I hadn’t disassembled the old bedroom set yet. That’s a story for another day.
My suspicions began when I noticed the parcels outside by the garage door. (Do the delivery drivers even ring the doorbell anymore? Asking for a friend.) I expected to find large, cumbersome packages. After all, I ordered a mattress and box spring set.
However, the boxes were both narrow and compact.
How did they fit a box spring into that box?
After an afternoon of assembling a bed (another story for another time…), I took on the mystery box spring package. Upon opening the box, I was stupefied by what I saw.
What?!
Apparently, box spring sets sometimes have to be assembled from a hundred different pieces of metal, with various sizes of screws and nuts.
Oh, and you have to work off of an instruction sheet that doesn’t have any actual WORDS! Only drawings of pieces, and intuition.
I poured some wine and went to work.
Is it worthy of self-congratulation that I completely assembled the box spring in ninety minutes? Why yes, I believe it is. Cheers!
By the way, the teen reported the best night of sleep ever!
Go, me!
