Design Spotlight: How Mercana Fuses Cozy Textures with Geometry

Hi! In my last blog article, I focused on Uttermost, a furnishings and accessory manufacturer whose display I visited while at Furniture Market. As I noted in the article, High Point Furniture Market featured hundreds of vendors and manufacturers, but several stood out to me. I was aware of Uttermost prior to Market. However, one manufacturer which I did not know previously is Mercana.

Mercana is another one of those furnishings companies that most people would not know about unless they work in the design industry. Even working in the industry, I never came across their name before. Although they were unknown to me before Market, I became such a fan that I am now partnering with them as well, as part of their trade partners program!

Who is Mercana?

Mercana is a small, family-owned wholesale furnishings manufacturing company located in western Canada.  As with Uttermost, they do not vend directly to the public like Pier 1 or Pottery Barn. Rather, they sell their wholesale goods to vendors and dealers, such as myself, who then sell the items as retail goods. Odds are excellent that you have seen their goods on sites such as Home Depot, Home Goods, or Overstock, but did not recognize the brand name.

Mercana’s signature style

Mercana has, since its inception, prided itself on offering unique furnishings with innovative design as their trademark. Their styling features a cozy minimalist blend of natural finishes, neutral upholstery, geometry, and sharp lines for contrast. Envision a mixture between Scandinavian natural woods and clean edges, modern farmhouse without the kitsch, and industrial design.

What caught my eye as I walked past their storefront was the use of matte black metal accents against pale wood finishes, as well as the intentional use of shape and texture in the sample room vignettes. For that reason, I decided to explore their offerings in greater detail, and it is why I have decided to feature their merchandise in my design business.

The style of Mercana’s furnishings has the potential to complement many different home and design styles, including modern, farmhouse, mid-century, or an industrial commercial setting. Their accent pieces have enough versatility that they could serve as a focal point in an otherwise nondescript room, which is helpful in property staging. Mercana appeals to my own sense of aesthetics, blending bold lines with soft textures for a vibe that distinguishes itself amongst the competition.

Individual noteworthy pieces

I took photos of many displays at Furniture Market, but after visiting the Mercana website online, I am even more impressed with the style and quality of the pieces. Below, I feature a few of the pieces that impressed me the most from the current lineup at Mercana.

How to purchase Mercana furnishings

Luckily, Mercana offers a public website where furniture shoppers can view the current catalog of offerings. From there, if the shopper chooses to order the piece, Mercana provides options for locating a nearby vendor, store, or designer (like me!) who can then order the pieces on behalf of the customer. It sounds like a tricky process, but the company uses designers like me are the storefront for Mercana.

I encourage you to window shop Mercana’s online store to see the amazing offerings! If you see a piece that you like, and wish to place an order, don’t hesitate to contact me to place the order for you. I can also answer questions you may have about pricing, taxes, and shipping costs.

I look forward to partnering with Mercana in order to provide my clients even more options to transform their dwellings into model homes!
